Magnetic Resonance Imaging: The Ultimate Thermal Method
But at the same time we must bear in mind that physics is not a deductive science, and that its body of first principles is by no means fixed and unalterable.
Max Planck, The New Science, 1959.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is perhaps the premier imaging modality in Clinical Radiology. Most are very familiar with the harmless hammering sound produced by MRI scanners as they generate their phenomenal images. However, what many fail to realize, is the richness of physical research which can be undertaken with these powerful scanners. Indeed, the author can think of no more powerful method to address fundamental questions in thermodynamics. It is hoped that these pages will help readers understand the tremendous research venues which are awaiting MRI scientists in the decades to come.
